Taking Pro-face HMI with GP-Pro EX from the United States
- Free in the United States, as everywhere, and self-paced: lessons, notes and the final assessment are open at any hour, so your time zone and shift pattern do not matter.
- The optional certificate for learners in the United States is a one-off US$23.99. What you get for it
- Plants across the Americas most often run Allen-Bradley, Siemens and Inductive Automation; each has its own free course to take next.
- See automation and engineering jobs in the United States, and what the industry looks like in Houston, Detroit and Chicago.
- EDWartens also has a regional site for the United States, for classroom training and local support: edwartens.com/us.
The course project 路 about 14 hours
Chiller and hopper-dryer HMI on a GP-4401T: FX3U address map, drying recipes, alarm history and logic in GP-Pro EX
Design, build, test and document a GP-Pro EX application for the auxiliaries of an injection-moulding cell: a GP-4401T talking to a Mitsubishi FX3U over the CPU port, screens on the ISA-101 pattern, a device address map, drying-profile recipes per material transferred as CSV data, an ISA-18.2 alarm list with history to the SD card, data sampling of the temperatures, a ladder program inside the HMI for the drying timer and the recipe interlock, security, and transfer and backup with the tools. You deliver the project, your own address map and FAT record, and the hand-over note. The sample pack is what an integrator hands a moulding shop.
Sample document pack, 8 documents, filled in for the scenario
- URSUser Requirements: Chiller CH-1 and Hopper Dryer HD-1 Operator Interface
- HMI specHMI Specification: Screen Hierarchy and Screen Specification, AUX-3
- Tag listDevice Address Map and Naming Convention: GP-4401T to FX3U-32MT/ES
- Recipe / phase specDrying Recipe Specification: Materials, Profiles and Transfer
- Alarm listAlarm List: AUX-3 Chiller and Dryer
- BOMBill of Materials: Panel AUX-3 and Field Devices
- FATFactory Acceptance Test Record: AUX-3 HMI Application
- O&M manualOperation and Maintenance Manual: AUX-3 HMI (Operation and Restore sections)
Read inside the course and download as a workbook. The project is optional practice, marked when you submit it; the certificate needs only the modules and the final assessment.

A shareable EDWartens certificate
Finish every module and pass the final assessment, and the optional EDWartens certificate is yours. It carries a unique verification code on a public page anyone can check, so it stands up when a recruiter looks it up. See it below.
The course itself stays free whether or not you ever buy one.
Stuck? Ask a practising engineer
A free course usually means a comment section and hope. This one does not. Every module has an Ask-your-trainer panel that reaches the same engineers who teach our paid programme: people who commission panels for a living, not moderators.

Common questions
Is GP-Pro EX free?
Pro-face offers a 10-day trial, and its simulation runs every screen and logic exercise. Build the screens on paper first and install it when you are ready to do them all in one go.
Which panels are covered?
GP4000 and SP5000 series through GP-Pro EX; the same software covers older GP3000 projects via the converter.
Why is this course shorter?
Most official lessons are one-minute feature clips; the course groups them into working modules with a 106-minute basic training as the backbone.
Is the Pro-face HMI with GP-Pro EX course really free?
Yes. Every module, practice task and assessment. You create an account so your progress is saved and the assessments can be marked. The certificate is the only paid item, and only if you want it.
What certificate do I get, and is it a Pro-face qualification?
An EDWartens Certificate of Completion, issued when you pass the final assessment, with a verification code anyone can check. It is not a Pro-face or Schneider Electric credential and is never described as one.
Who made the video lessons in the Pro-face HMI with GP-Pro EX course?
The creators named in the Credits block at the foot of this page, on their own YouTube channels. EDWartens did not make the videos and the creators are not affiliated with EDWartens. What EDWartens wrote is the study plan, the notes, the practice tasks and the assessments.
Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes. No HMI experience is needed, and the course starts from creating a GP-Pro EX project for a GP4000 or SP5000 panel. Everything can be tested in GP-Pro EX's built-in simulation, so you do not need a panel.
