Who it suits

Made for beginners.

You do not need to code or to know AI. If you know basic accounting terms and a spreadsheet, you can start, and you learn where AI saves time and where it must be checked.
  • Students of commerce, accounting, finance, management, economics and chartered accountancy.
  • Anyone who wants to use an AI assistant for accounts work without risking client data.
  • Read the notes on a phone, a tablet or a laptop.
A prompt built from five parts: role, task, data, rules and check, each with an example line.

What you will learn

Eight weeks, one picture each

Every week is open from day one. Each lesson takes a few minutes.
  1. Four steps: you give a task, the AI writes a draft, you check it, and a qualified person decides.

    Week 1

AI in finance work: what it does well and badly

Say where an AI assistant helps in finance work, where it fails, and how to check its output before anyone relies on it.

  2. A prompt built from five parts: role, task, data, rules and check, each with an example line.

    Week 2

    Prompting for accounting tasks

Write a clear finance prompt with a role, task, data, rules and check, improve it step by step, and save it as a reusable template.

  3. Four steps: describe the task, AI drafts a formula, you test it on rows you can check, then you use it.

    Week 3

AI in spreadsheets: formulas, cleaning, reconciliation

Ask an AI assistant for a spreadsheet formula, test it before you trust it, and use it to match two lists and flag what does not agree.

  4. Three ratios with their formulas: current ratio, gross margin percent and debtor days.

    Week 4

    Analysis, ratios and commentary drafts

Work out three common ratios, use AI to draft a short commentary, and check every sentence of the draft against your own numbers.

  5. Six steps of the month-end close in order: cut-off, accruals, reconcile, review journals, trial balance, report.

    Week 5

    Reporting and month-end support

List the steps of a month-end close, use AI to draft a checklist or a variance comment, and correct the draft yourself before anyone relies on it.

  6. Five red flags: duplicate invoice, round amount, new supplier paid fast, weekend entry and split payments.

    Week 6

Fraud signals, controls and audit trails

Name the common red flags in a payment list, explain what a control and an audit trail are, and say why AI can raise a flag but a person decides.

  7. Three buckets: never paste into a public AI, only in an approved company tool, and fine to paste, each with four examples.

    Week 7

    Privacy, confidentiality and professional judgement

Sort finance data by how safe it is to share with an AI tool, mask what you must, and keep a person in charge of every decision.

  8. The five parts of a one page playbook: tasks, checks, data rules, sign-off and a prompt library.

    Week 8

A finance AI assistant playbook (mini project)

Write a one-page playbook that says what AI may help with, how outputs are checked, what data is off limits, who signs off and which five prompts the team reuses.

Three groups of tasks: AI may draft, AI helps and a person decides, and no AI.

Practice, if you like

Try it on a practice ledger.

Each week ends with a worked exercise on made-up figures, with the answer or a good result given. Skip them if you prefer.
  • Free tools: a free chat assistant, and Google Sheets or Excel.
  • Practice figures only, never a real client's books.
  • A mini project in week 8: a finance AI assistant playbook.
  • Best on a laptop or tablet. A phone works for reading.
Four steps: describe the task, AI drafts a formula, you test it on rows you can check, then you use it.
Six steps of the month-end close in order: cut-off, accruals, reconcile, review journals, trial balance, report.

Questions

Quick answers

Is the AI for Finance and Accounting Internship really free?

Yes. Joining is free and so are all eight weeks, the weekly checks and the final quiz. You pay only if you choose an optional add-on.

How long can I take?

This internship runs for 1 to 8 weeks. You pick a start date and can change your plan later. All eight weeks are open from day one, so a short plan moves fast and a long one gives you room.

What do I need?

A laptop or tablet, Google Sheets or Excel, and a free AI assistant account. Every tool used is free or has a free tier, so there is nothing to buy. The notes also read well on a phone.

What will I actually do?

You read short notes with diagrams, watch a few videos and take an easy check each week. Each week ends with a worked exercise, such as asking an assistant to explain a formula, cleaning a list of transactions, drafting commentary on a set of ratios or listing red flags for a reviewer to check. Week 8 turns what you learned into a short playbook.

What do I get at the end?

A certificate of completion is an optional paid document, issued by Wartens Ltd (UK). It has a QR code and a number, so anyone can verify it at edwartens.com/verification. The lessons stay free, and you can finish without buying anything.

Is this a paid position?

No. It is training, not employment. Nothing is paid to you, and nothing here promises work with any company.

Who wrote the course?

OFORO, the Wartens AI company, wrote the notes and exercises. OFORO builds the AI behind Wartens' engineering and training work. The internship is run by Wartens Ltd (UK) and delivered through EDWartens.

What about privacy and wrong answers?

AI can get sums, rules and dates wrong with great confidence, so every figure is checked by you. Never paste client, company or personal financial data into a public chatbot: confidentiality duties and privacy law apply everywhere. The course gives no tax, audit or investment advice: AI drafts, and a qualified person decides.
