Control Panel Design and Wiring Internship

8 short weeks. Free. Start any date.

By Wartens Ltd (UK), delivered through EDWartens.

  • Free
  • Online
  • Any start date
  • 1 week to 24 months

Who it suits

Made for beginners.

You do not need to have built a panel. Basic electrical knowledge is enough, and you learn by small steps.
  • Students of electrical, electronics, instrumentation and mechatronics.
  • Anyone who wants to learn how a control panel is drawn, wired and tested.
  • Read the notes on a phone, a tablet or a laptop.

What you will learn

Eight weeks, one picture each

Every week is open from day one. Each lesson takes a few minutes.
  1. The main parts on a panel backplate

    Week 1

    Panels, parts and safe isolation

Name every part of a motor control panel and isolate it safely before you touch it.

  2. How to read a control schematic

    Week 2

    Drawings and a DOL starter

Read a control schematic and a wiring schedule, then wire and test a direct-on-line starter.

  3. The half-split method of finding a fault

    Week 3

    Fault-finding

Find a hidden fault with a meter, safely, replace only the part that failed and record the repair.

  4. Star-delta starter wiring with three contactors

    Week 4

    Star-delta and reversing starters

Wire a timed star-delta starter and a forward and reverse starter, both with interlocks.

  5. Hand, Off and Auto control

    Week 5

    Selector switches and sensors

Wire Hand/Off/Auto control and 3-wire PNP and NPN sensors to the right PLC inputs.

  6. The wiring blocks of a variable frequency drive

    Week 6

    Drives in the panel

Wire a drive's power, run commands, speed reference, safe torque off and fault relay.

  7. A 4-20 mA loop

    Week 7

    Analog loops and pneumatics

Wire a 4-20 mA loop, scale it, wire a 5/2 valve with reed switches and put a guard interlock in the coil circuit.

  8. A factory acceptance test table

    Week 8

    Build quality, FAT and handover

Build to a workmanship standard, label and mark up a drawing, run a FAT table and assemble a handover pack.

Practice, if you like

Wire and test a panel in the Panel Lab.

The Panel Lab is part of EDWartens Lab. You wire a panel on screen, use a meter and run a factory acceptance test. Skip it if you prefer.
  • Ten Panel Lab tasks, from a simple starter to a packing cell.
  • Isolate, wire, test dead, then test live, as you would on a real panel.
  • A factory acceptance test (FAT) shows PASS or FAIL for each check.
  • Best on a laptop or tablet. A phone works for reading and the meter.

Free learners keep full access. A verifiable certificate of completion is an optional paid document, issued by Wartens Ltd (UK). Anyone can check it with the QR code or number.

Questions

Quick answers

Is the Control Panel internship really free?

Yes. Joining is free and so are all eight weeks, the weekly checks and the final quiz. You pay only if you choose an optional add-on.

How long can I take?

Any length from 1 week to 24 months. You pick a start date and can change your plan later. All eight weeks are open from day one.

What do I need?

A laptop or tablet for the Panel Lab, where you wire and test a panel on screen. A phone is fine for reading the notes and taking the checks.

What do I get?

Short notes with diagrams, a few videos, easy weekly checks and a final quiz, and ten Panel Lab tasks to practise on. You keep a record of your progress.

Is there a certificate?

A certificate of completion is an optional paid document, issued by Wartens Ltd (UK). It has a QR code and a number, so anyone can verify it at edwartens.com/verification. The lessons stay free.

Is this a paid position?

No. It is training, not employment. Nothing is paid to you, and nothing here promises work with any company.

Do I need experience?

No. Basic electrical knowledge, such as volts, amps and a simple circuit, is enough. The first week names every part and teaches safe isolation before anything else.

How does the Panel Lab check my work?

You wire the panel on screen, then run a factory acceptance test (FAT): a table of tests with the result you expect and the result you see. The Panel Lab checks the wiring against the brief and shows PASS or FAIL for each test.
