  • 1 week to 24 months

Who it suits

Made for beginners.

You do not need to have commissioned anything. Basic electrical knowledge is enough, and you learn safety first, then the checks in the order a site team does them.
  • Students of electrical, electronics, instrumentation and mechatronics.
  • Anyone who wants to learn how a system is checked, powered up, fault-found, maintained and handed over.
  • Read the notes on a phone, a tablet or a laptop.

What you will learn

Eight weeks, one picture each

Every week is open from day one. Each lesson takes a few minutes.
  1. A diagram from week 1, Commissioning, safely

    Week 1

    Commissioning, safely

Explain the stages of commissioning, isolate a panel safely and keep a clear test record.

  2. A diagram from week 2, Checks before power

    Week 2

    Checks before power

Run the dead checks on a new panel and power it up in the right order.

  3. A diagram from week 3, I/O and loop checks

    Week 3

    I/O and loop checks

Test every input and output against an I/O list, check a 4-20 mA loop at five points and record the results on a loop sheet.

  4. A diagram from week 4, Motors and drives

    Week 4

    Motors and drives

Read a motor nameplate, prove the direction of rotation, set an overload, do a first VFD set-up and test the E-STOP chain.

  5. A diagram from week 5, Fault-finding

    Week 5

    Fault-finding

Fault-find a stopped machine step by step, change one thing at a time and write the corrective record.

  6. A diagram from week 6, Maintenance strategies

    Week 6

    Maintenance strategies

Tell the four maintenance strategies apart, write a panel checklist and read MTBF and MTTR.

  7. A diagram from week 7, Condition monitoring

    Week 7

    Condition monitoring

Explain how thermography, vibration, insulation trends and visual checks spot trouble early, and rank findings by priority.

  8. A diagram from week 8, Functional testing, SAT and handover

    Week 8

    Functional testing, SAT and handover

Test cause and effect, interlocks and alarms, keep a punch list, run a SAT and hand over a complete pack.

Eight week tiles from safe isolation to the factory acceptance test

Practice, if you like

Test and fault-find a panel in the Panel Lab.

The Panel Lab is part of EDWartens Lab. You work on a panel on screen, use a meter and run a factory acceptance test. Skip it if you prefer.
  • Five Panel Lab tasks, from a first isolation to the packing cell.
  • Isolate, test dead, then test live, as you would on a real site.
  • A factory acceptance test (FAT) shows PASS or FAIL for each check.
  • Best on a laptop or tablet. A phone works for reading and the meter.

Free learners keep full access. A verifiable certificate of completion is an optional paid document, issued by Wartens Ltd (UK). Anyone can check it with the QR code or number.

Questions

Quick answers

Is the Commissioning and Maintenance internship really free?

Yes. Joining is free and so are all eight weeks, the weekly checks and the final quiz. You pay only if you choose an optional add-on.

How long can I take?

Any length from 1 week to 24 months. You pick a start date and can change your plan later. All eight weeks are open from day one.

What do I need?

A laptop or tablet for the Panel Lab, and a spreadsheet for checklists and records. A phone is fine for reading the notes and taking the checks.

What will I actually do?

You read short notes with diagrams, watch a few videos and take an easy check each week. Five weeks end with a Panel Lab task, such as isolating a panel, doing a loop check or finding a hidden fault. The other weeks have a written exercise.

How does the Panel Lab check my work?

You work on a panel on screen, then run a factory acceptance test (FAT): a table of tests with the result you expect and the result you see. The Panel Lab shows PASS or FAIL for each test. The tasks are optional practice.

Is there a certificate?

A certificate of completion is an optional paid document, issued by Wartens Ltd (UK). It has a QR code and a number, so anyone can verify it at edwartens.com/verification. The lessons stay free.

Is this a paid position?

No. It is training, not employment. Nothing is paid to you, and nothing here promises work with any company.

Do I need experience?

No. Basic electrical knowledge, such as volts, amps and a simple circuit, is enough. The first week teaches safe isolation and live-dead-live testing before anything else.
