Japanese PLC platforms
Omron Sysmac and CX-Programmer, Mitsubishi GX Works3 and GX Works2: the controllers inside many packaging, textile and automotive machines, especially in Asia.
One course at a time. The next unlocks when you are halfway through this one.
Step 1PLC programmingBeginnerOmron Sysmac Studio: NX and NJ Machine Controllers
Omron's modern platform end to end: NX1P and NJ controllers, Sysmac Studio, variables and tasks, EtherCAT and I/O, analog and IO-Link, networking, HMI, advanced programming, 1S servos and camming, NX Safety and CIP Safety, SQL and recipes, backups and maintenance, with Omron's own five training sessions built in.
- Navigate Sysmac Studio and connect to NX and NJ controllers
- Program with variables, tasks and function blocks
- Configure EtherCAT, analog, IO-Link and EtherNet/IP
Step 2PLC programmingBeginnerOmron PLC with CX-Programmer
Omron from first principles: automation, the PLC, CX-Programmer, every instruction family, and the worked programs that make it stick.
- Explain automation, control systems and the PLC from scratch
- Use Omron addressing: CIO, W, H, D, T, C and bit-of-word notation
- Latch with a seal-in, SET/RSET or KEEP, and know which input dominates
Step 3PLC programmingBeginnerMitsubishi GX Works3: MELSEC iQ-R and iQ-F
The current Mitsubishi platform: GX Works3, iQ-R and FX5U hardware, communication and setup, I/O and CC-Link cards, the ladder editor with labels, sequence basics with the GOT simulator, timers, counters, data moves, index registers, arithmetic, CC-Link IE Field, built-in functions, MELSOFT Navigator and Mitsubishi's e-learning.
- Create and configure GX Works3 projects for iQ-R and FX5
- Communicate with, write to and diagnose a CPU
- Program ladder with labels, comments and the parts library
Step 4PLC programmingBeginnerMitsubishi FX with GX Works2
The Mitsubishi FX family instruction by instruction: devices, contacts, timers, counters, data, analog and high-speed counting in GX Works2, with a look ahead to GX Works3.
- Use X, Y, M, D, T and C correctly, including octal numbering and what survives a power cut
- Write ladder with SET, RST, PLS, PLF and the pulse contacts
- Control flow with MC/MCR, CJ, CALL, FEND and SRET
How the path works
Join the path and its first course is added to your account straight away; the next one is added when you are halfway through, so you never face a pile of unstarted courses. Each has its own progress, notes and final. Take them in the order shown: each assumes the one before. Each course has one assessment: a final of 15 questions drawn from every module, pass mark 60%, with 3 attempts and then a 24 hour wait, so the assessment checks that you followed the lessons rather than testing exam nerves.
Questions
- Is the Japanese PLC platforms free?
- Yes. Every course in the path is free in full: lessons, notes, practice tasks and assessments. Joining the path adds all of them to your account in one step. The only paid item is the optional EDWartens Certificate of Completion for each course.
- In what order should I take the courses?
- In the order listed: each course assumes the one before it. Every course keeps its own progress, final and certificate, so you can also take one on its own.
- Do I get one certificate for the whole path?
- Certificates are per course, issued when you pass that course's final assessment and bought only if you want them. Finishing every course in a path gives you one certificate per course.
