Industrial robotics
FANUC, ABB and KUKA, three of the robot brands most common on automotive and electronics lines, plus the servo and motion control they sit on.
One course at a time. The next unlocks when you are halfway through this one.
Step 1RoboticsBeginnerFANUC Robot Programming with the Teach Pendant and ROBOGUIDE
From jogging and frames to TP programs, registers, branching, offsets, pick-and-place, ROBOGUIDE simulation, palletising, error recovery and PLC integration.
- Start, jog and fault-reset a FANUC robot in T1, T2 and AUTO
- Teach tool and user frames and know what a wrong TCP does
- Write TP programs with J, L and C motion, FINE and CNT, approach and depart
Step 2RoboticsBeginnerABB Robot Programming with RobotStudio and RAPID
RobotStudio from install to a running pick-and-place: stations, jogging, the FlexPendant, frames, paths, RAPID, collision checking, signals, physics, sharing and RobotStudio Cloud.
- Build a station with a robot and a virtual controller
- Jog with the mouse and the virtual FlexPendant in every motion mode
- Define tooldata and wobjdata and know why the program follows the frame
Step 3RoboticsBeginnerKUKA Robot Programming with KUKA.Sim, smartPAD and WorkVisual
Simulation in KUKA iiQWorks.Sim (formerly KUKA.Sim), KRL structure and programming on the smartPAD, WorkVisual configuration, fieldbus and PLC integration, safety, advanced KRL, backups and the new KRC5 micro with iiQKA.OS.
- Build and program an iiQWorks.Sim (formerly KUKA.Sim) cell from the eCatalog to a running pick-and-place
- Define TCPs, bases and home positions and know what $TOOL and $BASE do
- Write PTP, LIN and spline motion with blending and CONT
Step 4Motion controlIntermediateServo Drives and Motion Control
What a servo system is, how to wire, mode, home, tune and network one, then motion programming in Studio 5000 and Siemens TIA Portal technology objects.
- Choose a servo system by torque, speed, inertia ratio and feedback
- Wire, configure and jog a servo drive
- Use position, speed and torque modes and know the runaway risk
Step 5RoboticsBeginnerUniversal Robots Cobot Programming with PolyScope
Collaborative robots the way integrators use them: the UR family, tool and payload setup, the safety configuration, PolyScope programs, pick-and-place and palletising, force and blends, URSim, URScript, RTDE, sockets, PROFINET and real machine-tending and vision applications.
- Set up a UR cobot and run a risk assessment
- Configure TCP, payload and the safety planes and limits
- Write PolyScope programs with waypoints, subprograms, force and blends
Step 6RoboticsBeginnerYaskawa Motoman Robot Programming
Motoman robots the way welding and handling shops run them: DX100, DX200 and YRC1000 controllers and pendants, jobs and interpolation, TCP, user frames and home, variables, counters and I/O, arc welding with weaving and anti-sticking, spot welding and tip dressing, alarms and recovery, backups, the Smart Pendant and MotoSim offline programming.
- Jog and program from the pendant with MOVJ, MOVL and MOVC
- Manage, protect and recover jobs
- Calibrate TCP, set user frames and home positions
Step 7RoboticsBeginnerRoboDK Offline Programming and Simulation
Brand-independent offline programming with RoboDK's own academy: installation, robots, tools and frames, targets and programs, teaching on surfaces, station creation, pick and place, simulation events, 3D models and mechanisms, simulation tools, curve-follow and machining paths, modelling your own robot, the Python API, post processors and export.
- Install RoboDK and build stations with robots, tools and frames
- Create targets and programs and teach on surfaces
- Simulate pick and place with events and mechanisms
How the path works
Join the path and its first course is added to your account straight away; the next one is added when you are halfway through, so you never face a pile of unstarted courses. Each has its own progress, notes and final. Take them in the order shown: each assumes the one before. Each course has one assessment: a final of 15 questions drawn from every module, pass mark 60%, with 3 attempts and then a 24 hour wait, so the assessment checks that you followed the lessons rather than testing exam nerves.
Questions
- Is the Industrial robotics free?
- Yes. Every course in the path is free in full: lessons, notes, practice tasks and assessments. Joining the path adds all of them to your account in one step. The only paid item is the optional EDWartens Certificate of Completion for each course.
- In what order should I take the courses?
- In the order listed: each course assumes the one before it. Every course keeps its own progress, final and certificate, so you can also take one on its own.
- Do I get one certificate for the whole path?
- Certificates are per course, issued when you pass that course's final assessment and bought only if you want them. Finishing every course in a path gives you one certificate per course.
