Automotive quality engineer
The quality system and the core tools a car parts supplier is asked for: ISO 9001, SPC and MSA, AIAG-VDA FMEA, APQP with the Control Plan and PPAP, and IATF 16949 internal auditing.
You start with the first course. The next one is added when you are halfway through the one you are on.
The roadmap
5 courses, in this order
Step 1: ISO 9001:2026 Quality Management and Internal Auditing
Adds: Free course for QA and QC engineers: ISO 9001:2026 clause by clause, and internal auditing to ISO 19011:2026. The certificate is optional and paid.
Step 2: SPC and MSA: Control Charts, Capability and Gauge R&R
Adds: Statistical process control and measurement system analysis worked with real arithmetic: variation and rational subgroups, X-bar and R, X-bar and S, individuals and attribute charts, run rules and reaction plans, Cp, Cpk, Pp and Ppk with confidence, and gauge R&R by average and range and by ANOVA, with attribute agreement, finishing with how SPC and MSA sit in APQP, PPAP and IATF 16949.
Step 3: Automotive Core Tools: FMEA (AIAG-VDA 1st Edition)
Adds: The core tool an automotive customer audits hardest, taught to the 2019 AIAG-VDA handbook: the seven-step method, the five T's, the three-level structure tree, functions written so the failures fall out of them, effect against mode against cause, prevention against detection controls, the severity, occurrence and detection tables, the Action Priority table that replaced RPN, optimisation with owners and dates, results documentation, a reverse check on the shop floor and the supplemental FMEA-MSR.
Step 4: APQP, Control Plan and PPAP
Adds: The automotive launch discipline in plain steps: the five APQP phases and gate reviews, special characteristics, the process flow, PFMEA and Control Plan chain, Safe Launch and reaction plans, the 18 PPAP elements and five submission levels, the part submission warrant, run at rate with a capacity calculation, and what to do when a submission is rejected or a change is made.
Step 5: IATF 16949 Automotive QMS and Internal Auditing
Adds: What IATF 16949 adds to ISO 9001 for car parts suppliers, customer specific requirements, the automotive process approach, product safety, supplier and production controls, change control, SPC and problem solving, then internal auditing practice: a risk-based audit programme, shop-floor interviews, audit trails through the core tools and graded nonconformity statements.

Questions
Questions about this path
Is the Automotive quality engineer free?
Yes. Every course in the path is free in full: lessons, notes, practice tasks and the final assessment. The only paid item is the optional EDWartens Certificate of Completion for each course.
What happens when I join the path?
You are enrolled on the first course straight away. The next course is added to your account when you are about halfway through the one you are on, so you never face a pile of unstarted courses. Each course keeps its own progress, notes and final.
In what order should I take the courses?
In the order listed: each course is placed after the ones it builds on. Every course also stands alone, so you can open any of them from the list.
Do I get one certificate for the whole path?

How long will it take?
The video alone is about 39h 53m. Notes, practice tasks and the finals take extra time, and you go at your own pace.
