Which features use AI, and what happens to my data?

The short answer

The AI assistant, the course AI tutor, the course advisor, CV and plan tools and the internship mentor and review use AI. What you type goes to AI providers to produce the answer. We do not sell it.

Some features use artificial intelligence. Answers from the Help Centre assistant are written by an AI, not a person; you can always choose Talk to a person.

Where AI is used

  • Help Centre assistant: answers from the Help articles.
  • AI tutor in a course (see Ask the AI tutor): answers about the module you have open. It does not see the module quiz or the final assessment, and the text of the chat is not stored on our server.
  • Course advisor: the "Ask" box that suggests courses, labs and internships.
  • CV and plan tools: reading a CV you upload to draft your learning plan, and the resume and cover letter helpers.
  • Internships: an AI mentor and an automated review of some hand-ins. A person signs the decisions that count most.

What happens to what you type

The text you enter, and the answer, are sent to AI providers for as long as it takes to produce the answer. Anything with your personal details (a CV, a cover letter, your profile) goes only to providers that do not train their models on what they are sent. The course advisor, which talks about the catalogue, may also use providers whose free tiers may use prompts to improve their models, so please do not type personal details into it.

We do not sell your data. A CV you upload is kept as your resume file until you remove it. The privacy policy names the providers.

AI can be wrong

Check anything important against the course notes or the official documentation, and never rely on an AI answer for safety on live equipment.

Using an AI feature

  1. 1You type a question

    Leave out personal details.

  2. 2An AI provider answers

It is an AI, not a person.

  3. 3Not enough?

    Choose Talk to a person.
