An AI project management internship online teaches you to run a project's paperwork with an assistant, and to know when not to trust it. You draft a charter, a work breakdown, a schedule, a risk register and a status report, then check each one. You do not need a technical degree, and you practise on an invented project. The first 4 weeks are free.
One fact about our own programme, so you can judge everything here fairly. The EDWartens internships are training, not employment. The first 4 weeks are free, with no fee to join, and finishing them earns a free certificate of completion with a QR code anyone can scan to verify it. Continuing past week 4 is paid, and so is the graded Internship Certificate (included from 24 weeks); prices are shown in your own currency before you pay. There is no stipend, and we do not promise a job, an interview or a placement.
How do you become an AI project manager?
There are two parts, and a student can start on both. The first is project management itself: how to define what a project is for, break it into work, estimate it, watch the risks and report honestly. The second is knowing where AI helps and where it misleads. The Association for Project Management describes project management as the application of processes, methods, skills and experience to achieve project objectives (page read 18 October 2026). The internship teaches the documents that carry those ideas.
Week 1 covers where AI helps a project manager: one draft at each stage of a project, draft, assist, decide, how AI gets it wrong, four checks for every draft, placeholders rather than real details, and a person in the loop that the log can show. Week 2 covers prompt patterns for project work: why wording matters, role, task, context, format and checks, weak prompt against strong prompt, asking for assumptions rather than guesses, and saving a prompt template.
What do weeks 3 and 4 cover?
Week 3 is the charter, scope and WBS with AI: what a charter is for, feeding it notes rather than a blank page, checking objectives and scope, what a work breakdown structure is, asking for a three-level WBS, and finding the gaps and the overlap. Week 4 is schedules and estimates, and their limits: from a WBS to an activity list, putting the schedule in a tool, the critical path, checking the schedule the AI gave you, three-point estimates, and why AI estimates cannot be trusted alone. Those four weeks are free.
The key lesson of week 4 is the one many beginners miss. An assistant can produce a tidy schedule in seconds, and it will look right. It does not know your team, your supplier or your holiday dates. The lab task Check the AI's work: project management sits in week 4 for that reason: you check the schedule before you believe it.
What happens in weeks 5 to 8?
These weeks are paid. Week 5 covers risk registers and issue logs: a risk has three parts, score by probability times impact, use AI for breadth then cut, choose a response, risks against issues, and keep the log alive. Week 6 covers meetings, minutes and status reports: what good minutes hold, notes to minutes with AI, the action test, a RAG status from a rule, one set of facts for three readers, and what a status report includes.
Week 7 is AI in agile teams and PM tools: from epic to stories with an assistant, give context then name the fault, what a good story looks like, retrospectives that keep themes without losing voices, AI inside a PM tool, and trying a tool feature before switching it on. Week 8 is a team AI playbook and its benefits: a playbook that fits on one page, approved uses and data rules, review steps before anything goes out, testing a prompt on a known answer, and showing the benefit as time saved.
Why does the course stress review steps?
Because AI projects and AI-assisted work fail in familiar ways, and a review step is the cheapest defence. NIST's AI Risk Management Framework describes how organisations manage the risks of AI across a system's life (page read 18 October 2026). The course takes that idea down to a project manager's desk: placeholders instead of real details, four checks on every draft, a log that shows a person decided, and a test of any prompt on an answer you already know.
What can you show afterwards, and what should you not claim?
A charter, a work breakdown, a schedule with its critical path, a risk register, a set of minutes and a status report, plus a one-page team playbook. Each is built on an invented project, so label them as training work. Do not claim project management experience at a company, and do not claim any professional qualification; this is not one. The free certificate of completion covers weeks 1 to 4 and carries a QR code.

|---|---|
| Free part | The first 4 weeks: all lessons, the weekly checks and the short final quiz. No fee to join |
| Certificate | Weeks 1 to 4 earn the free certificate of completion, verifiable by QR code, with no grade on it. The graded Internship Certificate is paid and included from 24 weeks |
| Labs | AI Workbench |
| Software | A free chat assistant, Google Sheets and Trello. Nothing to buy |
| Lengths | From 4 weeks (the free part) up to 24 months. Longer lengths are paid and shown in your currency before you pay |
| Time | Each lesson takes a few minutes. Nothing is timed, and practice never blocks a lesson, a week or the free certificate |
| What it is not | Not employment. No stipend. No promise of a job, an interview or a placement |
What do you do each day?
A remote internship day here is five small steps. Nothing is timed.
- Check in. Say hello to the simulated team and see what is planned for today. The colleagues are simulated and labelled as such.
- Learn. Read a few short lessons on charters, schedules and risks. Each lesson takes a few minutes.
- Today's practice. Answer a few quick questions on what you read, with the reason shown after each one.
- Lab practical. Open the AI Workbench and draft a project document, then check it.
- End-of-day update. Write two lines on what you did and what is next.
Which three lab practicals will you do?
Three of the practicals, by name. Each opens in a browser lab, and each is optional practice that never holds you back.
- Prompt to spec (AI Workbench, week 2)
- Check the AI's work: project management (AI Workbench, week 4)
- Data health check (AI Workbench, week 8)

Questions
What does an AI project management intern practise?
Prompt patterns, a charter, scope and work breakdown, schedules and estimates and their limits, risk registers, meetings and status reports, and AI in agile teams.
Do I need a technical degree for the AI project management internship?
No. You do not need to have managed a project. You learn the basic documents first, then where an assistant speeds up drafting and where the project manager must decide.
Which project do I practise on?
An invented project, or your own college project, never a client's private plans. Practice uses a notes page, Google Sheets and a free board tool such as Trello.
Is there a free project management internship with a certificate?
The first 4 weeks are free and earn a free certificate of completion. Continuing past 4 weeks is paid. It is training, not employment, so there is no stipend and no job is promised.
What will I have at the end of this internship?
A team AI playbook with its benefits from the week 8 mini project, and a checked AI Workbench task on verifying the AI's project work.
