An AI in finance internship online is built for commerce, accounting and finance students who do not code. You learn to prompt an assistant, use it inside a spreadsheet, draft commentary from your own numbers, and check every figure it gives you. The first 4 weeks are free, and every exercise uses practice figures, never real client data.
One fact about our own programme, so you can judge everything here fairly. The EDWartens internships are training, not employment. The first 4 weeks are free, with no fee to join, and finishing them earns a free certificate of completion with a QR code anyone can scan to verify it. Continuing past week 4 is paid, and so is the graded Internship Certificate (included from 24 weeks); prices are shown in your own currency before you pay. There is no stipend, and we do not promise a job, an interview or a placement.
What does an AI in finance internship cover?
The course starts with a rule that runs through every week: AI drafts, a person decides. Week 1 covers what AI does well and badly in finance work, why it makes things up, the difference between language tools and calculating tools, and a check routine for every output. Week 2 is prompting for accounting tasks: five parts of a good prompt, context that carries the finance details, vague prompt against strong prompt, and what is worth a comment (materiality).
Week 3 is AI in spreadsheets: formulas, cleaning and reconciliation. You learn to ask for a formula the right way, clean messy data, match two lists, round once at the end, and check the formula before you trust it. Week 4 is analysis, ratios and commentary drafts: three ratios in plain words, comparing with the last period, asking for the method then redoing one total yourself, and tracing every number in the draft. Those four weeks are the free part.
How do you check what the AI gives you?
This is the skill the internship is really about. A language model writes fluent text, and fluent text is easy to believe. So you learn to ask for the method, redo one total by hand, and trace each number in a draft back to its source. The lab task Check the AI's work: finance, in week 4, is where you practise exactly that.
Professional bodies and regulators stress the same point in general terms. The FCA describes how it approaches AI in financial services (page read 18 October 2026), and NIST's AI Risk Management Framework describes how organisations manage AI risk (page read 18 October 2026). The course is not a compliance course and does not teach you either document. It gives you a working habit of keeping a record with the file, so a reviewer can see what the AI did and what you changed.
What happens in weeks 5 to 8?
These weeks are paid. Week 5 is reporting and month-end support: the close in order, a checklist drafted by AI and fixed by you, accruals and prepayments, where AI saves time in the close, variance comments, and report packs. Week 6 covers fraud signals, controls and audit trails: red flags in a payment list, what a control is, splitting duties, how AI helps spot fraud, and the audit trail.
Week 7 is privacy, confidentiality and professional judgement: why finance data needs extra care, three buckets for your data, mask first then ask, settings and the tool's terms, and keeping an AI use log. The ICO publishes guidance on AI and data protection (page read 18 October 2026), which is a useful place to read further. Week 8 is a finance AI assistant playbook: five parts on one page, the tasks you choose, the checks, data rules and sign-off, and a library of five prompts.
Who is it for?
Students and early-career people in commerce, accounting, banking and finance, and anyone who works with numbers and wants to use AI sensibly. You need basic accounting terms and a spreadsheet. You do not need to code. The practice uses Google Sheets and a free chat assistant, and nothing needs buying.
What can you show afterwards, and what should you not claim?
A playbook, a library of prompts with their checks, a spreadsheet exercise with your working, and the free certificate of completion. Describe them as training work on practice figures. Do not say you have audited, reconciled or reported on real accounts, and do not claim any professional recognition; this is not an accounting qualification.

What do you do each day?
A remote internship day here is five small steps. Nothing is timed.
- Check in. Say hello to the simulated team and see what is planned for today. The colleagues are simulated and labelled as such.
- Learn. Read a few short lessons on spreadsheets, ratios and audit trails. Each lesson takes a few minutes.
- Today's practice. Answer a few quick questions on what you read, with the reason shown after each one.
- Lab practical. Open the AI Workbench and use an assistant on practice figures, then check its work.
- End-of-day update. Write two lines on what you did and what is next.
Which three lab practicals will you do?
Three of the practicals, by name. Each opens in a browser lab, and each is optional practice that never holds you back.
- Check the AI's work: finance (AI Workbench, week 4)
- Choose the metric and the threshold (AI Workbench, week 6)
- Privacy first (AI Workbench, week 8)

Questions
Can a commerce or finance student do an AI internship without coding?
Yes. You do not need to code or to know AI. If you know basic accounting terms and a spreadsheet you can start, and you learn where AI saves time and where it must be checked.
How is AI used in this finance internship?
For prompting, spreadsheets, ratios and commentary drafts, month-end support, fraud signals and audit trails, with privacy and professional judgement throughout. The rule in every week is that AI drafts and a person decides.
Will I work with real company or client data?
No. Practice uses figures made for the course, never a real client's books. You also learn to mask data before you ask, so the habit is ready for the day you work with real figures.
Is there a free AI in finance internship with a certificate?
The first 4 weeks are free and earn a free certificate of completion. Continuing past 4 weeks is paid, and so is the graded Internship Certificate. It is training, not employment.
What will I have at the end of the AI in finance internship?
A finance AI assistant playbook from the week 8 mini project, a checked AI Workbench task on verifying the AI's work, and the free certificate of completion for weeks 1 to 4.
